The new 2022 Mercedes-Maybach S480 – the superior luxury with a hybrid engine – in pictures

Mercedes, specifically the Maybach branch, presented the new exclusive S480 2021 S480 Maybach-Mercedes to the Chinese market, although some believe that it may already be issued in a number of markets under the name S 450 S450.

Why S450 and Not S480? This is because it uses the same Benz S-Class engine, that is, a 0.3-liter petrol unit with lightweight hybrid assistance . The engine generates a combined output of 367 hp (270 kW) and 500 Nm of torque in both cars.

However, due to the difference in size and weight, the S480 Maybach is slightly slower than the S450 in acceleration from 0 to 100 km /  h, which takes 8.5 seconds compared to 1.5 seconds on the Mercedes-Benz S 450. The new Maybach six -cylinder features an electronic maximum speed limit of 250 km / h.

As with other Maybach models, the S480 is infused with the finest materials available and comes with everything a luxury sedan would require .

The model is listed on the official website at CNY 1,458,400, equivalent to $ 655,224 at current exchange rates, and is the only Maybach Class-S model available in China at the moment.

Mercedes:

Mercedes-Benz (German: Mercedes-Benz); (German pronunciation: [mɛɐ̯ˈtseːdəsˌbɛnts, -dɛs-]) is a German global automotive brand and is a subsidiary of Daimler. Mercedes-Benz is known for its luxury vehicles, vans, trucks, buses and ambulances. It is headquartered in Stuttgart, in the state of Baden-Württemberg. The mark first appeared in 1926 with the birth of Daimler-Benz. In 2018 Mercedes-Benz was the best-selling luxury car brand in the world with 2.31 million cars sold. The name first appeared in 1926 during the reign of Daimler-Benz.

Mercedes-Benz has its origins in Daimler Motors Gesellschaft, produced by Daimler Engines in 1901, and Benz Patent Motorvagen designed by engineer Karl Benz in 1886, which is widely considered the first gasoline car. The brand’s slogan is “Best or Nothing.”, Which is widely seen as the first internal combustion engine in a self-propelled vehicle.

Historical overview

Karl Benz. He built the 1886 Benz Patent Motor Vehicle, which is widely considered the first car.

Gottlieb Daimler, founder of the Daimler engine company.

Mercedes-Benz traces its origins to Karl Benz’s invention of the first gasoline-powered car, the Benz Patent Motorwagon, which was patented in January 1886, and to Gottlieb Daimler and engineer Wilhelm Maybach converting a horse’s wagon into a car by adding a petrol engine later that year. . The Mercedes was first marketed in 1901 by Daimler-Motoren-Gesellschaft.

In 1902 Austrian automobile entrepreneur Emil Jellink, who worked with Daimler Engines, created the brand after naming the car manufactured in 1901 by the name Mercedes 35 hp after the name of his daughter, Mercedes Jelnik. Emil Jellink was a businessman and marketing strategist who promoted Daimler cars among the elite of society in his rented home, which at the time was a meeting place for the elite of society in France and Europe, especially in the winter season. Among his clients are the Rothschilds and other well-known personalities. But Jelnik’s plans went further: as early as 1901 he was selling Mercedes cars in the New World as well, including American billionaires Rockefeller, Astor and Morgan. In a race in Nice in 1899 he drove Jellinek under the pseudonym “Monsieur Mercédès,” a way of concealing the competitor’s real name as it was normal and is done regularly in those days. The race is the birth hour of the Mercedes-Benz brand.

The first Mercedes-Benz cars were produced in 1926 after the merger of Karl Benz and Gottlieb Daimler with Daimler-Benz on June 28 of the same year.

Gottlieb Daimler was born on 17 March 1834 in Schorndorf. After working and training as a gunsmith in France, he joined the Polytechnic School in Stuttgart from 1857 to 1859. After completing various artistic activities in France and England, in 1862 he began working as an art painter in Geislingen. At the end of 1863 he was appointed as a workshop inspector at a machine tool factory in Reutlingen, where he met Wilhelm Maybach in 1865.

Throughout the 1930s, Mercedes-Benz produced the Model 770, a car that was in vogue during the Nazi period in Germany. Adolf Hitler was known to drive these cars during his time in power, with bulletproof windshields.

Most of the remaining models were sold at auctions to private buyers. One of them is currently on display at the Canadian War Museum in Ottawa, Ontario. Often the Pope will be supplied with a car from Mercedes-Benz.

In 1944 46,000 workers were forcibly employed at Daimler-Benz factories to support the Nazi war effort. The company later paid $ 12 million in compensation to the workers’ families. Mercedes-Benz introduced many technical innovations and safety features that later became commonplace in other vehicles.

Mercedes Benz is one of the best known and well-established brands in the world.

Quality ratings

Since its inception, Mercedes-Benz has maintained its reputation for quality and durability. Objective measures of consideration for passenger vehicles, such as the JD Power surveys, showed a decline in the reputation of these standards in the late 1990s and early 2000s. By mid-2005, Mercedes was temporarily back at the industry average for initial quality, a measure of problems after the first 90 days of ownership according to J.D. Power. In JD Power’s Initial Quality Study for the first quarter of 2007, Mercedes showed significant improvement by climbing from 25th to 5th place and winning many awards for its models. For 2008, Mercedes-Benz’s initial quality rating improved by another mark to fourth place. Moreover, the company also received the Platinum Plant Quality Award for the Sindelfingen car assembly plant, Germany. JD Power’s 2011 Initial Vehicle Quality and Reliability Studies rated Mercedes-Benz cars above average in build quality and reliability. In the UK’s 2011 JD JD Energy Survey, Mercedes cars were rated above average. A 2014 study posted on iSeeCars.com for Reuters found that Mercedes had the lowest recall rate for a vehicle.

2015 and beyond

Model naming rationalization was announced in November 2014 for future models. The changes incorporate many confusing designations and placements into the model range as the CL-Class is now called the S-Class Coupe. The naming structure is divided into four classes: basic, off-road / SUV, four-door coupe, and road. The AMG GT and V-Class were unaffected by the change. In October 2016, Mercedes unveiled the X-Class pickup truck based on the Nissan Navara. At the 2016 Paris Motor Show, the company announced the EQ, an upcoming family of battery electric cars anchored on a modular platform, expected to account for up to 25% of its global sales by 2025.

Environmental record

Mercedes-Benz has developed multi-concept cars with alternative propulsion, such as plug-in hybrid and all-electric motors and fuel cell engines. At the 2007 Frankfurt Motor Show, Mercedes-Benz showcased seven hybrid models, including the F700 concept car, which is powered by a hybrid electric motor featuring a diesel engine. In 2009, Mercedes-Benz showcased three Blue Zero concepts at the North American International Auto Show. Each car has a different powertrain – an electric battery, fuel cell electricity, and a gasoline-electric hybrid. In the same year, Mercedes also demonstrated the Vision S500 PHEV concept with a 19-mile (31 km) all-electric range in the New European Driving Cycle.

In June 1909, Daimler-Motoren-Gesellschaft registered both the three-pointed star and the four-pointed star as trademarks, but only the three-pointed star was used. For Daimler Engines, the star symbolized Gottlieb Daimler’s goals to use engines in all areas: on land, water and in the air.
